A sophomore at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. took the top award at this year’s 2025 Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Talk Meet contest.

“I’m excited!” said 18-year-old Camille Sonnier of Lacassine and a third-generation dairy cattle farmer.

“I’m glad I grew up in ag,” said Sonnier “There are so many things involved from the technology side to the communication side of it. Everyone has their place.”

Sonnier said Farm Bureau is a great outlet for students.

“I was a state officer with Future Farmers of America (FFA) and organizations such as that and Farm Bureau help bridge the gap by showing support, building leaders and sustaining agriculture,” added Sonnier.

This year’s topic: How can Louisiana Farm Bureau support young people in agriculture?

Patience, persistence and faith is how Sonnier opened her five-minute talk on the topic. “It’s not just cows, sows and plows. It’s about the people,” said Sonnier. “The people of today will produce tomorrow.”

This is the second year Sonnier has participated in the contest. She is majoring in agricultural business and minoring in communications. She won $200.
