Plate lunches and policy were on the table at the Farm Bill Lunch on Saturday at the Louisiana Farm Bureau 101st Annual Convention. Michael Diliberto, and economist with the LSU AgCenter, moderated a panel of farm bill experts on what to expect with the upcoming legislation.

Dr. Andrew Griffith, Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Tennessee, speaks at the LFBF Livestock Conference about where he believes cattle prices are heading, the factors driving his thoughts and what he expects to happen with input prices.


The price of sugar was a big topic of conversation at this year's LFBF Sugarcane Conference. While prices have been good, there are several factors that could lower prices, especially the weather in India. Still, members of JSG Commodities are optimistic about the domestic price of sugar and the prospects for Louisiana' sugarcane industry specifically.

At the 101st Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans, one of the hottest topics is the adverse wage rule. The change in wage rates could cost the Louisiana sugarcane industry upwards of $50 million. While there is a lawsuit against the rule going forward, LFBF Labor Advisory Committee Chair Katie Ramagos says it's an issue that Farm Bureau is tracking carefully. #LFBF101
