The exuberance and creativity of a number of youth were on display during the Louisiana Farm Bureau's Talk Meet.

Tyler Bergeron from Pointe Coupee Parish won the 2016 competition.

"When they called my name for first place I was completely shocked," said Bergeron, who will be a senior at Livonia High this fall. "I was excited to be able to share my plan of action with the rest of the members at convention."

The subject of this year's contest centered on how Farm Bureau could better influence state and local policy as "The Voice of Agriculture" for farmers and ranchers. Bergeron, who lives in Morganza, discussed an advertising plan that could eventually influence agricultural policy.

"As our population grows farm land shrinks, there is a need to represent people in agriculture and help provide for our country as well as the world," Bergeron said.

The Talk Meet is organized by the Women's Leadership Committee and was chaired by Fawn Courville, of Pointe Coupee Parish.

Alizabeth Guillot, who will be a senior at Riverfield Academy in Richland Parish placed second. Dina Crochet from Assumption Parish placed third.
