La. Farm Bureau President Jim Harper Elected to Fourth Term

Louisiana Farm Bureau President Jim Harper was re-elected to serve for his fourth term at the 101st Annual Convention of the organization on Sunday.

The election took place during the organization’s voting delegates session, and saw the reelection of the members of the executive Committee as well. Harper, a grain, sugarcane, rice and crawfish farmer, said it was an honor to serve as president once again.

McCann, Mikulas and Cheek Claim the Farm Bureau Talent Titles

An Avoyelles pianist and Rapides vocal duo won their respective talent divisions at the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation’s 101st Annual Convention, June 23 at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel.

Frances McCann of Avoyelles Parish claimed the Junior Talent crown. Dancer Cooper Becnel, representing Calcasieu Parish, was first runner-up. Jazz dancer, Tenley Pilgram of East-St. James Parish was second runner-up.

Extension May Be Needed Before Farm Bill 2023 Passes

A packed house attended the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Convention’s Farm Bill Lunch June 24 at the Marriott Hotel on Canal Street in New Orleans.

The question that garnered the most interest from the overflow crowd of producers, lenders and economists dealt with when Congress might pass the 2023 Farm Bill. Young said the current bill is set to expire Sept. 30.

Sugarcane Outlook ‘Sweet’ for Louisiana Farmers

Louisiana’s sugarcane producers were encouraged following the Louisiana Farm Bureau Sugar Conference at the annual Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Convention at the New Orleans Marriott.

“Sugar is the top commodity of the year,” said Jeff Dobrydney to the farmers, mill operators and ag lenders who gathered in the Marriott’s Preservation Hall. “Prices are up 30% worldwide and looks to stay strong.”

NEW ORLEANS-Evangeline Parish resident Raquel Manuel is the 2023 Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet winner. It was her first time participating in the event - a competitive mock committee meeting which allows professionals in agriculture to develop leadership skills.

Rapides Parish Couple Named 2023 Top Young Farmers

NEW ORLEANS-Robert and Rachel Duncan of Boyce, Louisiana are the winners of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award.

The Duncans raise cattle and soybeans on their farm in Rapides Parish, and they are also raising three young daughters who they hope will someday become the fifth generation of their family to farm.

Brassell claims Talk Meet title at 101st LFBF Convention

NEW ORLEANS – Kinzie Brassell, a 16-year-old student at Lacassine High School, won the Talk Meet Contest at the 101st Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, June 23.

Brassell bested 10 other contestants in the contest which had entrants give a 5-minute or shorter speech on the following topic: How can Farm Bureau support young people to ensure the future of agriculture?

NEW ORLEANS-The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation culminated the opening night of its 101st Annual Convention with Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau capturing the President’s Award for the fourth straight year.

The President’s Award recognizes the parish Farm Bureau that excels in membership, advocacy and communications over the past year. LFBF President Jim Harper presented the award to Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau President Bryan Simon Thursday night at the New Orleans Marriott.
